Ending Gender Discrimination in Nationality Laws:
Advancing the Rights and Human Security of Women and Children

Twenty-seven countries currently deny women equal rights to confer nationality to their children. Over 50 countries maintain some form of gender discrimination in their nationality law. These discriminatory laws result in significant human rights violations and suffering for individuals and families, including: statelessness; children’s lack of access to education and healthcare; links with gender-based violence, child marriage and human trafficking; unemployment and poverty. Today there is a growing movement to end gender discrimination in nationality laws and ensure that nationality rights are based on citizenship, not gender.

Please join us for a roundtable discussion to heighten awareness of this critical human rights issue and engage new partners to support reform efforts.
